Hollowed #3

Scars beneath the skin
Don’t show
Night-surgery
Scooped out the soul
During sleep.

Keloid keyholes
Fibrous traces
Secret picked-at scabs
Out of sight
In semi-conscious limbo
Only the heart remembers
As it pumps its own emptiness
Labouring in vain.

This was the first in a series of five poems posted on Facebook after a challenge (obliquely) from Graham Morgan. This is part of a longer one (still in progress).

More followed and, now the Facebook bit is done. I'll publish them here and link them together.

The picture is a duvet cover. As hollow as the wind.

The sequence is Hollowed #3DuskBloodlinesSuccothBoyhood; plus the bonus, Balance Wheel.
